What is Lexicon Lane?
Lexicon Lane is an independent, informational home for word games and wordplay. We round up the games worth playing, explain the clever devices of language, and share tips for getting sharper with words.
Do you sell games or word lists?
No. Lexicon Lane is purely informational. We describe the games and the wordplay, but nothing on the site is for sale and there's nothing to sign up for.
Is the site good for children?
Very much so. Word games are a wonderful, wholesome way to build vocabulary, and every game and lesson here is family-friendly.
Playing the Games
I want to get better at word games. Where do I start?
Head to the Workshop. 'Collect Words Like Treasure' and 'Master the Little Words' are the two habits that lift every player, whatever game you enjoy.
Which word game is best for a group?
Categories, Anagram Race, and Word Chain all shine with a crowd and need almost no equipment. Tile word-building is the classic for a focused table of two to four.
Do I need a big vocabulary to enjoy word games?
Not at all. Word games are how a vocabulary grows in the first place — start with what you know and you'll pick up new words with every round.
